Sully Post 79 American Legion has announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the usual Memorial Day program in the Sully Buttes Gymnasium will not be held. Instead, a 21 gun salute and Taps will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25, Memorial Day.
Suggestions for observing the day and remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice include decorating with flags; buying a poppy; participating in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 Monday afternoon by pausing for a minute in an act of national unity; thanking a veteran; and by flying the flag at half-staff until noon.
Another way our fallen heroes can be honored on Memorial Day is by assisting the Legion and Auxiliary with the work of placing flags on and removing flags from the graves of veterans. Flags will be placed at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 and removed at 5:00 on Monday, May 25.
Onida Memorial Day
