Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, turnout for this year’s Lake Region Band Festival was smaller, with just ten bands participating in the contest.
“The Groton band director and administration made accommodations for COVID-19 so everyone could be safe while we were there,” said Sully Buttes instrumental music instructor Erica Paxton.
Under the direction of Drum Major Griffin Petersen, Sully Buttes received a Gold rating for their marching performance, and placed fifth overall.
"It had been an interesting marching season,” said Paxton. “At this point, we were just happy to even be able to go to one competition, but we were missing seven people that day, so we knew we had to step it up more than we already have been.”
“To go through all we have this season and receive a gold rating was pretty special,” Paxton continued. “We want to thank everyone for all of the support this year, it meant a lot to us to see everyone that came out and cheered us on.”
