In solidarity with their classmate Blaine Duffel, the Sully Buttes Class of 2021 held a quilt raffle fundraiser, the proceeds to be used to defray medical expenses related to Blaine’s heart condition.
Last Thursday, after meeting to begin planning for the 2020 Sully Buttes prom, the juniors discussed distributing the raffle proceeds to the Duffels. A little more than $800 was realized from the raffle.
Since he was 14-years-old, doctors have been closely monitoring Blaine Duffel’s blood pressure. “Dr. Steve [Knoble] at the Onida Clinic said he was too young to be taking medicine, so he just kept an eye on it,” said Blaine’s mom Nancy Duffel. “Last fall Steve referred us to a pediatric cardiologist in Sioux Falls, Dr. Sami.”
