The agricultural tradition of wheat weavings and bread in a bag in Tracy Wientjes’ second grade class has been carried out for dozens of years, with this year being no different. Wientjes has been, yet again, incorporating agriculture into her classroom with the goal of connecting her class with agriculture.

The art of wheat weaving dates back hundreds of years, serving as a symbol of good luck in several cultures. In Wientjes’ classroom, wheat weaving is taught just before the Christmas break, where students create simple three-straw braids. As a result, the Christmas trees of the second graders have once again been adorned with these clever decorations.

The students also make bread in a bag which is baked in the high school FACS room.
