This weekend, Blunt will be the scene of games and activities. Organizers are inviting area residents to make plans to participate in this year’s annual Blunt Fest, August 23-25.
Festivities rev up on Friday, August 23 at 7:00 p.m. with the ice cream social sponsored by the Blunt United Methodist Church in the Blunt Community Center.
Contact Sam Irvine 280-7301 with your entry in the parade of lights which gets underway at 8:30 p.m. and will be followed by fireworks, weather permitting.
The evening closes at the Medicine Creek with live music from 9:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. by the Annabelle Band a four-member party band plays rock music covers. From its Facebook page the band proclaims, ‘We are different than any other cover band you’ve ever seen as we have a stage of props, costume changes and loads of audience participation!’
On Saturday, August 23, those with a culinary bent should contact Wyatt Leesman 280-6069 in order to put their skills to the test in the 2nd Annual Hoses & Hogs Cookoff in the Blunt Fire Hall at 8:00 a.m. The cookoff is sponsored by the Blunt Volunteer Fire Department.
At the elementary school, the Blunt Elementary PTO sponsored Pedal Tractor Pull starts at 9:30 a.m., registration at 9:00 a.m.
Val Marso 280-7694 is coordinating the 10th Annual Jonathan Fanger Memorial Bean Bag Tourney which gets underway at 10:00 a.m. east of the Medicine Creek/north of the rodeo grounds. "This is the final year for this tournament, so if you have been wanting to, now is the time to sign up," said Val. The tournament is a best of three games single elimination tournament. "All proceeds stay local and will be used to fund suicide prevention, education, and awareness programs."
A free will donation taco bar will be hosted by the Sully Buttes Junior Class as a fundraiser from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Oahe Electric social room.
The Blunt Volunteer Fire Department will be giving fire truck rides leaving from Calvary Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. – noon.
Calvary Baptist will be the scene of the vendor fair from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and the inflatable carnival sponsored by Calvary Baptist Church and Blunt Fest from 10:00 a.m-4:00 p.m.
Gather on Main Street at 1:00 p.m. for the 4-wheeler games, no registration required.
Lawn mowers will be shifted into road gear for the lawn mower poker run set to start at 3:00 p.m. from the Community Center, no registration necessary.
The Firemen’s Rib Feed starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Fire Hall.
Annabelle Band will again engage the audience at the Medicine Creek with their rock covers from 9:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.
Sunday’s Blunt Fest activities turn contemplative with worship services and competitive with a Cup in Hand Kickball tournament.
A free-will donation breakfast buffet will be served at the Blunt Community Center from 7:00-10:30 a.m.
Concessions will be available at the kickball tournament at the Blunt Park which starts at 10:00 a.m.; contact Dustin Witt 209-7004 to sign up.
