A December 2018 graduate from University of Nebraska Kearney, Brittney Hockenbary worked as an 8th grade science instructor in the spring of 2019 at the Ogallala, NE school where she did her student teaching. "When I finished student teaching in math and business in November, I worked as a long-term sub in a science classroom until Christmas break and then filled the position the spring semester," said Hockenbary. "I was offered the middle school science and science and math enrichment position here in May."
In June, she married her husband, Lance. Both are natives of Valentine, NE, and both grew up on ranches. "My mom and stepdad live in Gettysburg, and he works at the ethanol plant. They thought it was something Lance would like, and there was a teaching position here."
Hockenbary says that her mom also teaches middle grades science, which was part of the inspiration for her own career choice. "My major is in middle grades math and business, but I got my science certification, too."
"The school is really nice," said Hockenbary. "I thought I’d get confused with the elementary being connected, but once you figure out where you’re at, it’s easy."
