Greg Bergeron, who works at the Ringneck Energy ethanol plant as a Floater, grew up in St. Paul, MN’s east side. “I was a city kid,” said Bergeron.
After a four-year stint in the Army following high school, Bergeron found a tight job market when he returned home. “There were not a lot of jobs available, and a friend of mine who worked for Schmidt asked me, ‘Why don’t you come out to the brewery?’”
Bergeron spent nights on the plant floor at Schmidt on the cleaning crew, “cleaning with a steam hose and pushing a broom.”
He saw an opportunity in the Gopher State Ethanol plant that was under construction in 1998 and began working in the ethanol industry. “I was actually grinding the corn and making the brew,” said Bergeron. “Everything we’re doing at this plant, but on a smaller scale.”
