Ainsworth Benning was lined up to be the general contractor for the courthouse dome restoration project, but due to some personnel changes, the company notified Sully County that it would not be able to perform the project. Instead, the project will be completed by Fort Pierre firm First Dakota Enterprises, lnc.

With the contractor change, the cost of the project increased by $45,000, but the new estimate does include costs like insulation that were not included in the Ainsworth Benning estimate. Under the direction of the new contractor, the project will begin December 6, a month earlier than the Ainsworth Benning projection.

It is urgent that courthouse dome restoration donors who wish to be recognized with a plaque on the donor wall at the entrance to the courthouse rotunda where the renovation is taking place make their contributions now in order to accommodate the updated timeline. Sully County Historical Society fundraising committee members report that they have had several families express interest in contributing and being recognized who have not yet arranged to make their monetary donation. The deadline for making a contribution of $360 or more that is recognized on the donor wall is December 3, 2021.

Sully Buttes students, guided by Vocational Ag instructor Andy Schmahl, will prepare the donor recognition boards over Christmas break. The plaques will be affixed and the boards will be erected at the conclusion of the project.
