Onida Chamber cuts ribbons on local businesses

The Onida Chamber of Commerce held ribbon cutting ceremonies at two local businesses last Wednesday, July 20.

Grassland Gourmet and Gifts

Owned by business partners Tawana Grueb and Linda Knox, Grassland Gourmet and Gifts has been operating in the community for thirteen years; the business recently began operating out of a Main Street storefront instead of the Knox home.

“We operated out of our homes until May,” said Tawana. “We outgrew Linda’s house” where they previously did all their mixing.

Tawana says the storefront is more efficient than the setup they had in Linda’s house. “We have more room to create a back stock of our products.”

The lifelong foodies say that the aspect of their business they most enjoy is mixing and coming up with recipes.

“We really enjoy coming up with and naming our new products,” said Tawana. “Every product has a background story connected to our personal lives.”

As their business has grown, they have begun to operate as wholesalers rather than retailers. They have done the work of marketing their products through vendor shows, and over time have winnowed the number of shows they attend to just three.

They have no plans to open a storefront at their new location. “Crazy Bs and the Corner retail our products,” said Tawana, adding that they are planning an open house during the December 2 ’Twas the Night Before Christmas event in Onida. “We don’t want to have retail hours, but if our vehicles are there, we’re open, and we welcome people to walk in.”

Swift Clean LLC

Kelsey Swift started her mobile detailing business Swift Clean LLC in May. “I enjoy cleaning and I've always enjoyed doing cars, but didn't like having to take my own to Pierre and have no car for a day,” said Kelsey of the inspiration behind her business.

Following the adage of starting a business where she saw a need, Kelsey says that she has had detailing bookings from the beginning. “I only do it three days a week, and every day is filled,” said Kelsey. “My regular season ends in August” when she returns to her job as a paraprofessional with the ABO School District.

For now, Kelsey operates her business out of her garage at home, but says she’d like to acquire a shop where she can add cleaning car exteriors to the scope of her services.

“Next summer, I’ll look into doing it more than three days a week,” said Kelsey. Even during her off season, Kelsey will continue working weekends and will fulfill the contracts she has for monthly detailing maintenance for some of her customers.
