Making progress!

The Sully County Historical Society, formed just five months ago, was issued a $90,000 fundraising matching challenge by an anonymous donor.

The donor offered to match up to $90,000 funds raised by the SCHS toward the courthouse dome restoration project by the June 1 fundraising deadline.

Accepting the challenge, the SCHS held more than a dozen fundraisers, including several raffles, a pie auction, and a 1/10th of 1% letter campaign, and succeeded in meeting the challenge more than a month ahead of deadline.

SCHS Treasurer Lew Robbennolt reported to the SCHS that “Thanks to all of you and the generosity of our neighbors, the $90,000 matching fund challenge has been reached today,” last Friday, April 23.

With this $90,000 challenge met, the SCHS is halfway toward the $360,000 needed to complete the dome restoration. Fundraising continues with the Wine & Cheese Tasting (advance tickets required) event next Wednesday, May 5; Silver Symphony Student Recital at the Courthouse on May 20; Poker Run/Hustler Mower Raffle Drawing on May 23; Memorial Day Luncheon at the Phoenix Center on May 31; Gun auctioned at JD Weischedel Bull Riding on June 4; Agar History Tour, Meal, Gun Raffle and Silent Auction on June 13; Patriotic Cantata on June 15; Bowling Tournament at Lariat Lanes on June 23; Codgers Cove Gun Raffles on July 3; FAST Triathlon on July 17; Fishing Tournament and Calcutta August 6-7; Brats and Beer followed by Vintage Clothing Style Show with Gun auction on August 12; Run/Walk on August 14; Thomas Ranch Backyard BBQ on August 21; and Gun Raffle at Onida Firehall Pheasant Supper on October 16.

More events are being added to the calendar each week as the SCHS continues its journey towards the $360,000 goal needed to turn our Dome Restoration project from a dream to reality.

A new promotion the SCHS has added is ‘Ring of Gold Contributors.’ Anyone (whether it be a group, family, business, etc.) that makes a contribution of $10,000 to the Dome Restoration Project will receive a large engraved wooden plaque which will be mounted just below the dome. This “Ring” will be limited to the first 20 contributors.
