This Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. in the Emmanuel Mennonite Brethren Church, the Sully Area Singers will perform Memories of a Merry Christmas.
With its recollections of everything that makes a Merry Christmas, from the birth of the Savior to the mistletoe and twinkling lights, the cantata is particularly appropriate for the Singers’ 70th Anniversary performance.
In 1949, Mrs. John Sutton started the Sully County Ladies Chorus and enlisted Mrs. Leonard Venner to direct the group. The ladies met once a month for practice, and sang at the Sully County Fair, at district and state extension conventions, and ‘were thrilled to sing at one national extension convention.’ Men joined the group in 1966 and their first Christmas cantata was sung in 1968. The group traveled by bus to perform on KELO TV several times in the early 1970s, once driving through a blizzard.
Led by Marla Mosiman and accompanied by Judy Foth, the Sully Area Singers invite everyone to join them for a free-will donation chili supper in the basement fellowship hall following the performance.
