Onida First Grade teacher Susie Rilling has been named the Agar-Blunt-Onida School District Teacher of the Year.
Responding to the call to nominate a teacher who is ‘dedicated, inspiring, and making a difference,’ the form submitted nominating Rilling for the award notes that “the students at ABO mean the world to her, and she makes sure they know that.”
The nomination continues, "Ms. Rilling not only meets the academic needs of our students, but also their social and emotional needs."
"Ms. Rilling sets high expectations for her first graders from the very beginning of the school year, and it is evident she believes in them and supports them to ensure academic, social, and emotional growth."
She has a special way of relating to students of all ages. She takes the time to build relationships with her first graders, and continues those relationships beyond their elementary years."
"It is also evident that she has great rapport with her high school basketball players, and they are often seen visiting her classroom."
Rilling will be recognized during the Onida Elementary Concert on April 28.
Since she has been named the district TotY, Rilling will be submitted for consideration for the Region Teacher of the Year.
