Janet M. Hunt was born August 28, 1948 in Pierre, SD at a very small 2 lbs, 4 oz. She was given the name Mary Ann by the nuns at St. Mary’s Hospital and her twin was named Anna Marie as they had no names. Later on, their father, Jack, would call them “the Susie’s.” Big Sue was later named Janice and Little Sue was named Janet. She was the first born and always cared for and was loved by her twin, Big Sue. As children they were the babies of eleven children born to Jack Ennis and Jennie Elizabeth (Annis) Hunt.

The family was raised on a ranch near Eagle Butte, always having to ride horse back to school. Janet later went to Stephan/Mission boarding school, graduating high school in 1968. She began working for Tex and Edie Bennett Eagle Butte, and soon had her first child, Jacqueline Jennifer. Two years later she gave birth to Turner Jack. In 1973 she married the love of her life, Colin Campbell. They soon brought Colin Gene into the family and shortly after, everyone welcomed Tori Lee.

Janet and Colin made their home on a farm in Sully County, SD and later moved into Agar. Janet babysat in Agar, and all of these children became part of the family. Janet could never sit still, she cleaned houses, cared for the infirmed and elderly in the area, baked, and attended any and all of the children’s school activities. She was always their biggest fan. Janet had adventures outside the home. She learned to drive at the age of 30, loved to be wild, and dressed up at Halloween, and scared anyone around.

Janet lost her sight and she and Colin moved to Gettysburg. She learned to manage on her own and began her life as a snowbird. She enjoyed her time in Arizona which allowed her to spend time with her daughter, Jennifer. In 2017 she moved to Arizona full time until wanting to come home to spend her last months with her family around the Eagle Butte area.
