Marvin Lawrence Hiller, 89, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019. Visitation will be held 9:30-10:00 a.m., Friday, December 13, at the Onida United Methodist Church with funeral services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Onida Cemetery.
Marvin was born January 24, 1930 to Rudolph and Genevieve (Schmitz) Hiller at Okobojo. S.D. Marvin left school after the 8th grade to help support the family. He joined the army and served in Korea and received an honorable discharge in April of 1953. Marvin met Shirley Jean Westphal upon his return from Korea. They were married on August 16th, 1953. To this union five children were born: Benjamin, Claude, Wade, Barbara Jean and Wesley. Marvin worked many years for Oahe Grain of Onida. Upon his retirement he went to work for Lamb Chevy and Lamb Motors delivering cars but his favorite job was that of delivering lunch to the Blunt Elementary School for the ABO School district. Marvin was a volunteer fireman for 25 years for the Onida Fire Department and he loved hunting, fishing, gardening and collecting stuff.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley, sons: Wade (Rondha) Hiller and Wesley Hiller, grandchildren: Maghan Hiller Merrill and Justin (Linden) Hiller, great granddaughter Karmen Merrill, sister Lorraine Miller, brother Roy (Charlotte) Hiller and sister in law Mary Hiller along with a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Karen, infant children Benjamin, Claude and Barbara Jean, sister Ethel Maskovich and brother Chet Hiller.
