Carol Peterson, 68, of Pierre passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Prayer services were held on Wednesday, January 13, and the funeral on Thursday, January 14 at Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre with interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre. Carol Jean Carter was born on June 27, 1952 in Gettysburg, SD to Clifford and Darlene (Tennant) Carter. She grew up on the Tennant Farm in Sully County and attended the Rich Valley Country School before the family moved to Onida. She finished her schooling and graduated from Sully County in 1970. During high school she was crowned Honored Queen by the Job’s Daughters.
After high school she moved to Pierre where she met her future husband Errol Peterson. They were married on April 16th 1971 at the Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre. She went to work for the State of South Dakota Department of Transportation and retired in June of 2017. She had 46 years of service in the same office and during her career she made many lifetime friends.
Among Carol’s special interests were going to concerts, attending garage sales, camping, boating and fishing. She loved spending time with her family, friends, grandkids and grand dogs. She loved shopping trips with her daughter, Friday family and friends dinners at Jake’s and cooking Sunday dinners for family.
She is survived by her husband Errol Peterson, daughter Angela (Terry) Nelson, son Eric (Tarrah) Peterson; grandchildren Chase, Seth and Jhetta, all of Pierre; her mother Darlene Carter; her brother Jim (Jo) Carter; sisters Wanda (Ed) Hauser, Mary (Hime) Hauser, and Kim (Steve) Christ and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Clifford and her sister Linda.
