Barb (Nelson) Meyers of Crooks, SD passed away December 10, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital - Sanford with her beloved Yorkie Emily and her husband Roger by her side.
Born April 30, 1951 in Parkston, SD to Josephine (Hafner) and Orville Nelson, Barb attended Parkston school and graduated from Lincoln High School, Sioux Falls. After High School she attended Stewart’s School of Hair Styling. In May 1971 she married Rodney Jonason, to which they had 3 children: Janine, Nicki and Justin. Barb lived in Onida until 1991 when she relocated to Pierre SD where she was employed at SD Department of Transportation (as she described her favorite job ever). She later moved to the east side of the state where she met her love Roger Meyers. They married December 3, 2004 and made their home in Crooks, SD where she resided until her passing. Barb was employed at Scheels, a job and co-workers she thoroughly loved.
Barb lived passionately; everything she did and felt was with filled with passion. She was passionate about her pets, gardening, the outdoors, camping, dancing, Hallmark, wine, Facebook, working and meeting new people. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she spent hours shopping and preparing the stockings for her grandchildren to make sure everything was just right. She was also passionate about selecting the perfect card for the person and the event; she truly had a gift for that and her loved ones are grateful to have those for years to come.
Most important to Barb were her relationships. She never met a stranger as she considered them instant friends. Her relationships with her girlfriends (especially her supper/wine group) were valuable to her and she looked forward to getting together with them once she was well. She maintained and treasured relationships with colleagues turned friends from all previous jobs.
Most valuable to her were her grandchildren. Barb was blessed with 9 biological and 3 step grandchildren. She relished in the birth of every child and cherished attending any of their events. She was incredibly proud of each and every one of them and anybody who ever met her quickly learned that.
Almost equally as special were her constant companions, “the girls”: HER dog Presley (Morkie), Rose (Bichon/poodle mix) and Arial (calico cat).
Barb’s family and friends would like to express their deepest gratitude to the nurses and caregivers of Select Specialty Hospital - Sanford who took such special care of her. True to form, she formed relationships with many of them and intended to “go out and have drinks” once she recovered. A special appreciation to the personnel at Scheels for their genuine concern and support for Barb as she worked towards recovery.
Barb is survived by her husband, Roger; her children Janine (Chad) Haaland of Volga, Nicki (Brant Lietz) Jonason of Luverne and Justin (Emily) Jonason of Milbank; her bonus children Roger Paul Meyers II of Tea, William (Shonda) Meyers of Bristo,l TN and Jennifer (Michael) Tittle of Jonesborough, TN. Her grandchildren: Alyssa, Abby and Brody Haaland; Brianna Jonason and Zach DeBoer; Jaylin, Jayce, Jax and Jaston Jonason; Autumn, Jordan and Caleb Meyers. Her brothers Gordon Boeckermann and Glenn (Sandy) Nelson and sister Lynn (Gary) Hoellein as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
