Gale Brink

Gale Brink, 82, of Pierre, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Highmore Healthcare. Graveside Services were held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blunt.

Gale’s passion to serve touched so many during her lifetime. Whether you knew her from her years in customer service, her restaurant and outstanding cooking abilities, or her multiple volunteer activities, you were touched by her generosity.

B. Gale Brink was born in Canadian, TX on April 20, 1938 to Oscar and Roberta (Popham) Parrott. She was a country girl with a passion for her animals. She attended school in Canadian until the early 1950’s when she moved to Midland, SD with her parents and brother, Robert “Butch” Parrott. Her parents moved to a place north of Hayes, SD where she lived until the young age of 15, when she met and married Jim Brink and started her own family. Gale was not a stranger to work. She was a mother of 3 children by the time she was 20 years old, raising their children while working to help support her young family. Jim and Gale settled their family in Onida, SD in the early 1970s and brought another daughter into their home.

Her biggest passion has always been her family. She was blessed with her first grandchild a few short months after her youngest child was born, and her blessings continued to grow as her family grew. She was a key player in all of her grandchildren’s lives, teaching care and compassion, life skills, how to play in the dirt, or spoiling with “sugar” or a “bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.”

In 1993, when her children were grown and independent, Gale relocated to Washington State, an area that remained fondly in her memories from a brief move there in 1967-68. Joining her son Jim and Colleen, she spent the next 20 years continuing her passion to serve in the support of her local family, where her grandchildren affectionately nicknamed her “Triple G” (Great Grandma Gale); her church, Washington Cathedral; her employer, FileNet where she supported administration and facilities; and her numerous friends and acquaintances. During this time “Triple G” was a positive influence in the raising of two grandchildren and five great grandchildren, was active in her church and developed a passion for travel with trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean and Alaska. Her family applauded her gained ability to live the bountiful life she so fully deserved.

In 2013, she moved back to Pierre, SD to support her next generation of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a granny on the go for as long as her health allowed. She never missed an opportunity to watch her grands and great-grands play a sport or dance a recital. She was very active in the SE Methodist Church and its mission work with the summer lunch programs and the Banquet meals. She was also a regular participant and volunteer in the Pierre Senior Center. Gale’s call for servitude was complete when she was released to heaven on May 14, 2020.

Grateful for her love and mourning her loss are her children, Sue Joachim and Sam Holland; Jim and Colleen Brink; and Jennifer and Jason Anderson; her grandchildren: Craig Joachim; Megan and Jerid Jaeger, with their children Jaydn, Jaycee and Jovi; Colby and Marquette Brink, with their children Madison, Colt and McKia; Delynda and Vince Christenson, with their children Brinley, Parker and Brooklyn; Sydney Brink; Scott and Meghan Brink with their children Mason, Weston, Kadynce; Dustin and Becky Brink with their children Brianna, Taylor and Tristin; Danielle Larson with her children Shayla, Shaune and Reese; Jace Anderson and Hannah Lorenz; and Blake Anderson.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her brother Robert Parrott, her daughter Lynda Brink, her granddaughter Melissa Joachim and her great-granddaughter Jessa Lee Jaeger.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in care of Feigum Funeral Home for distribution to her favorite charitable organizations. Condolences may be conveyed to the family at
