Karen was born on September 29, 1951 in Alliance, Nebraska to Philip and Adelia (Dee) Albright. She was the second child of three, with an older brother Rick and a younger sister, Marilyn. After graduation from Alliance High School, she relocated to South Dakota, ultimately to Agar to live and farm/ranch with her loving husband Larry and children. They were married June of 1985 in Agar, South Dakota at St John's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed watching Carrie in the Sully Buttes Band and Aaron in Football and Basketball. Upon retirement, they moved to Onida and enjoyed spending time with friends, traveling around the United States and internationally and visiting all of their grandchildren in Iowa and Georgia.
Karen retired in 2016 as the Director of Equalization, after 12 years of dedicated and passionate service to Sully County. She was a Certified Appraiser Assessor (CAA) and a notary. She was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran, playing the organ and a member of LWML. She was also the Treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy spending every moment possible spoiling them. She was an incredible seamstress (having made her daughter Carrie's wedding dress), played the piano/organ, loved to bake and plant flowers in her yard.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Larry Wilcox, her children Carrie (Comer) Mitzel (Brad), Aaron Comer (DeAnna), seven grandchildren, Brandon Mitzel (Kendal), Cailan Comer, Hope (Mitzel) Porter (Jesse), Sofie Comer, Ashlyn Lamb, Avery Lamb and Maria Mitzel. She leaves before her first great-grandchild who will be born in December (Asia Porter). She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Albright and nephew Tristan Albright.
She leaves behind a community of friends who loved her dearly, as if she were their family. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and brother Rick Albright.
