The Sully Buttes Charger golfers participated in the Region 5B golf tournament at Broadland Creek in Huron on May 24th.

On the girls side 8th grader Olivia Olson qualified finishing 15th with a score of 117, 59-58.

Two of the four Charger boys also qualified. Seventh grader Gavin Colson carded a round of 87, 43-44, good for 7th place. Senior Garrett Petersen extended his career finishing in 12th place with a 47-47 84. Just missing the cut by 2 strokes was senior Caleb Chicoine and by 3 strokes 10th grader Thomas Farries. The Charger boys finished in 4th place as a team.

Tray Hettick of Selby was the medalist on the boys side shooting 77. Jayce Pugh of Miller was medalist on the girls side with an 83. Next up is the State Tourney June 7-8 in Brookings. The girls will play at Edgebrook and the boys at the Country Club.

Golf coach Randy Pool added these comments. "Broadland is a very tough course that will force you to play the fairways or pay the price. Thomas and Caleb are both very good golfers but had difficulty doing this, and took some scores they usually never have on a course.”

“Olivia gutted it out. Her last two holes were tough, but she stayed level headed and got the job done.”

“Garrett was steady all day, keepimg himself out of trouble with two rounds of 47 to extend his season.”

“Gavin was solid all day. He played smart, navigating the hazards and water, and as a result scored well.”

“I'm excited for these three who all will be playing in their first state golf tournament."
