The Post 79 Varsity Teeners hosted Fort Pierre last Thursday at the ball field in Onida and came away with the 9-7 victory.

Fort Pierre scored the first points of the game on a stolen base in the first inning. Post 79 scored runs in the third and fourth innings and held a 8-1 lead going into the fifth inning. The team almost gave up their lead as they watched Fort Pierre score 6 runs in the inning, but after scoring a run in the sixth while holding their opponents scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings, the Varsity Teeners walked away with the 9-7 victory.

Blaine Duffel was the starting pitcher. He had 12 strikes in 34 pitches and 4 first pitch strikes. Thomas Farries threw 22 strikes in 40 pitches and had 5 first pitch strikes. Garrett Petersen had 17 strikes in 22 pitches with 6 first pitch strikes. Jordan Schall had 1 strike in 13 pitches. Marshall Wittler had 13 strikes in 23 pitches, and against four batters had 4 first pitch strikes.

In four at bats, Marshall Wittler had 3 hits and 2 runs. Blaine Duffel, Zach Farries, Garrett Petersen, Jordan Schall, and Jesse Schall had RBIs, and Landon Hepker had two RBIs. Thomas Farries and Garrett Petersen were each credited with two stolen bases.

The Post 79 Varsity Teeners next outing will be on July 20 at 1:30 p.m. in the Region Tournament in Wessington Springs versus Clark.
