Rodeo team members Blaine Hill, Rafe Wientjes, Taylor Burgee, Sully Paxton, and Chase Yellowhawk will compete in the South Dakota High School Finals Rodeo this week.

The members of the Sully Buttes High School rodeo team have qualified to compete in the 71st South Dakota High School Finals Rodeo, June 16-21, 2020 at the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre. Morning rodeo performances begin at 9:00 a.m., and the evening performances begin at 5:00 p.m. Admission is $12 for one performance, $20 for a day pass, $15 for a short round pass, and $50 for an all performance pass with children under 9-years-old free.

Team members Blaine Hill, Sully Paxton, Rafe Wientjes, Taylor Burgee, and Chase Yellowhawk qualified in their respective events after participating in practice and regional rodeos this spring.

The team participated in the regional rodeo in Highmore on June 6, placing as follows.

With a score of 58 points, Blaine took second place in the saddle broncs event. He will compete Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Sully garnered seventh place in both the team roping and tie down events. Sully’s time with team roping partner Tate Hoffman of Highmore was 14.15 in the first go and 15.65 in the second go. For tie down, Sully earned no points in the first go and had a time of 11.04 in the second go. He will compete in Tiedown Thursday evening and Friday morning, and Team Roping Thursday morning and Friday evening.

With his team roping partner Tyus Williams of Kadoka, Rafe earned no points in either the first or second go. In tie down, Rafe took third with times of 12.29 in the first go and 14.02 in the second go. He will compete in Tiedown Thursday eveing/Friday morning, and Team Roping Thursday morning and Friday evening.

In barrel racing, Taylor Burgee earned times of 16.674 in the first go and 38.465, good for 15th place. In breakaway roping, Taylor was among the twenty competitors who did not have a time. She will compete in Breakaway Thursday evening and Friday morning, and Barrel Racing Thursday morning and Friday evening.

Chase Yellowhawk continued his winning ways in bareback riding, earning first place with a score of 61. He will compete Thursday morning and Friday evening.
