Over the Sully Buttes Chargers varsity girls basketball squad, the Miller Rustlers notched a 52-39 victory in doubleheader action last Thursday, January 16. In the girls JV contest, the Chargers overwhelmed the Rustlers, achieving the 40-16 win.

The first quarter of the girls varsity tilt was a high scoring affair with the Chargers putting up 17 points and the Rustlers 20. The Rustlers added another twelve to their tally in the second, and the scoreboard favored the visitors at halftime, 32-23.

In the third, the Rustlers held the Chargers to just three points while putting up triple that number. The Chargers outscored the Rustlers by a bucket in the fourth, but the score at the buzzer indicated a Rustler victory, 52-39.

For the Chargers, Allyson Wittler was the top scorer with 15 points. Allyson also received the Capital Journal’s Athlete of the Week recognition.

When the Sully Buttes girls junior varsity team took the floor for their matchup against Miller, they came out shooting, scoring 20 points on ten field goals and an additional four from the foul line. The Chargers went into the break having doubled the 12 points their opponents scored, 24-12.

In the second half, the Chargers were tough on both sides of the ball, putting up 16 points while holding the Rustlers scoreless in the third and to just 4 in the fourth. After 32 minutes of play, the scoreboard indicated a Charger victory, 40-16.

Stevie Wittler was the JV squad’s top points-earner with 15.
