The Sully Buttes Chargers girls golf team took home top honors Thursday at the CSDC Tourney held in Gettysburg.
The girls shot a 311, 19 strokes better than the second place team. Lauren Wittler carded a round of 95 along with Miller's Erin Moncur, and won in the 1st playoff hole to capture the individual title. Kara Huse shot a round of 104 good for 4th and Lydia Hill a 112 good for 5th.
On the boys side Nick Wittler was the only Charger to crack the top 10 as he shot 102 good for 6th. Caleb Chicoine added a 108, Garrett Peterson a 109, and Payton Perry a 122. Thomas Farris took 2nd in the JV division with a round of 106. Nick, Payton, Caleb, and Thomas will represent the Chargers at the Pre- Region and Region tourneys on the 13th and 20th at Broadland Creek in Huron.
Coach Pool added these comments on the day. "The girls played very well. Lauren took a 10 on a hole or she would have been around 90 and no need for a playoff. But her experience persevered, and she was able to get it done in one playoff hole.”
“Kara and Lydia had good days,” Pool continued. “It takes all three shooting good scores to help us be a region contender.”
“On the boys side Nick had a good day. The other 3 boys struggled a little. It's going to take a score in the mid-90s to make state.”
“Thomas played in the JV division as you can only have four golfers at the varsity level where you score three. Nick and Payton were safe going into the tourney to make the region team, and the next two low scores would join them. It was very close between those three at 106, 108, and 109. I'm very proud of all of them. Now we will prepare for regions,” said Pool.
