At the SoDak 16 Tournament last Tuesday, March 10, the Sully Buttes Chargers came out ready to play and defeated the team that handed them one of their two losses on the season, with a clear 58-23 victory over Herreid Selby Area in Gettysburg.  The first time these two teams met was a month ago, when Herreid Selby Area came out on top 52-46. This time, the Wolverines couldn’t put things together offensively, as the Chargers locked them down defensively.

The Chargers took control quickly and were leading 16-8 after one quarter, and 34-10 at halftime.  Leading the way was senior Nick Wittler, who finished with 20 points, while senior Jett Lamb added 15 from the low post position. Two other Chargers contributed to the scoring from the block with junior Rafe Wientjes adding 8 points, and sophomore Jesse Schall contributing six.  The Wolverines were led by Dawson Zabel with 9 points followed by Clayton Randall with 8.

The Chargers record stands at 20-2, and when they return to the Class B State Tournament in Aberdeen, they will face Viborg-Hurley in the first round. Viborg-Hurley is 19-3 and had losses against Aberdeen Christian, DeSmet and Sioux Valley in the regular season.

This will be the fourth straight year the Chargers have made it to Aberdeen, winning it all in 2018, and finishing sixth last season.
