State champion shot put throwers, Jett Lamb and Lauren Wittler flank Sully Buttes throwing coach Tom Moore.

The Sully Buttes Track and Field teams competed at the Class B State Track and Field meet in Sioux Falls on May 24 and May 25.  Lauren Wittler and Jett Lamb became state champions in the shot put.  Wittler, a senior, was competing for the last time as a Charger and threw 39’ 1” to win the competition.  Lamb, a junior, not only won the competition, but also set a new school record with his throw of 55’ 2 ¾”.  The old record was set in 1976 by his uncle Jeff Lamb at 54’ 8 ½”. Lamb also competed in the discus and placed 8th overall with a toss of 140’ 9”.

Stevie Wittler also placed in both hurdle events.  In the prelims of the 100m hurdles, Wittler ran 16.89 which was the 6th best time.  In the finals, on Saturday, she ran 16.21 and placed 6th overall.  Wittler also ran the prelims of the 300m hurdles and had the 7th best time with 49.05.  In the finals, she ran 49.72 and placed 8th.  Angela Guthmiller placed 2nd in the discus competition with a throw of 125’.

The girls 4x100m relay team placed 6th overall with a time of 52.84.  In the prelims, they had the 7th best time of 52.77.  Relay team members were Stevie Wittler, Allyson Wittler, Dani Frost and Brooklynn Bradford.  The girls 1600m Medley relay team placed 7th in the finals with a time of 4:37.67 and paced 8th overall.  They ran 4:32.96 in the prelims to nab the final spot for finals.  Team members were Brooklynn Bradford, Allyson Wittler, Avery Weinheimer and Dani Frost.

The boys 4x100m relay team ran 45.82 in the prelims to get the final spot for finals.  In the finals, they ran 47.21 and placed 7th overall.  Team members were Grant Johnson, Morris Hofer, Sebastian Frost and MacKenzie Weinheimer.  The same group ran the 4x200m relay and placed 5th overall with a time of 1:36.03.  They ran 1:34.83 in the prelims to be the 6th best time.  The 1600m Medley relay team placed 4th overall with a time of 3:52.31.  Team members were Grant Johnson, MacKenzie Weinheimer, Morris Hofer and Sebastian Frost.  In the prelims, they had the 4th best time with 3:52.31 and Johnson, Weinheimer, Dohrion Eisterhold and Frost were team members.

Other Chargers competing but not advancing to the finals were Courtnie Weinheimer-100m dash-13.73 (15th); Grant Johnson-100m dash-12.17 (17th); Allyson Wittler-200m dash-29.14 (16th); MacKenzie Weinheimer-24.35 (19th); Angela Guthmiller-shot put-34’ 10 ¾” (10th); Brooklynn Bradford-triple jump-31’ 10 ¾” (16th); girls 4x400m relay-4:22.60 (9th-Calleigh Chicoine, Dani Frost, Avery Weinheimer, Brooklynn Bradford) and boys 4x400m relay-3:44.69 (14th-Sebastian Frost, Dohrion Eisterhold, Quinn Jordre, Morris Hofer).

The girls team placed 11th overall with 27 points and the boys team placed 13th overall with 22 points.
