Sully Buttes boys placed 13th with 32 points
Chargers boys were among nineteen teams to hit the mats at the Big Dakota Conference wrestling tournament on Saturday. The squad sent two of six to the placing rounds and as a team placed 13th.
In his weight class, Bryson LaRosh was eliminated from the tournament in two matches. Bryson lost by major decision 10-1 to Logun Pankratz of Marion/Freeman in his first match and by fall at 1:42 to Jerrick Walker of Stanley County in his second match.
Ely Heuertz wrestled two hard matches in his weight class, losing to Carter Lenz of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes by fall at 3:23 and to Jerrod Larsen of Chamberlain by fall at 4:39.
Enroute to a second place finish in his weight class, Lucas Yellowhawk was 3-1 on the day. He won by fall at 1:05 over Austin Blare of Winner Area in his first match. He defeated Chamberlain’s Bryce Reuer by decision 3-2 in his second match. In the semi-final match, Lucas was victorious by decision 2-1 over Miller/Highmore-Harrold’s Colby Kolda. Lucas lost by decision 5-3 to Colton Brady of Stanley County in the 1st place match.
Bryson Heuertz received a first round bye in his weight class. In his second match, he lost by fall at 1:27 to Marion/Freeman’s Riley Tschetter. He likewise lost his third match by fall at 0:30 to Juian Rouillard of Lakota Tech.
It was Lakota Tech’s Kolt Fox over Kadyn Westergren by fall at 2:40 in Kadyn’s first match. Kadyn received a second round bye. In his third match, Kadyn lost by major decision 11-3 to Ethan Harris of Bennett County.
Isaac Ramirez faced six matches to determine his spot on the tournament placing stand in his weight class. He received a first round bye. In a hard fought second round match, Isaac lost by fall at 5:34 to Coy Ludemann of Stanley County. He came back to win his next match by fall at 4:48 over Gerrick Dekle of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte/Dupree. It was Isaac over Tre Zeigler of Winner Area by decision 6-2 in his fourth match. He defeated Lakota Tech’s Patrick Richards by decision 6-1 in the fifth round. Wrestling Stanley County’s Coy Ludemann in the match for 3rd place, Isaac lost by sudden victory 8-6, taking fourth place in the tournament.

In her weight class, Cheyenne Fuller lost to Aileana Brewer of Lakota Tech by fall at 1:00 in her first round match. Cheyenne had a second round bye. It was Fallon Peterson of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte/Dupree winning the third round match by fall at 2:03. Cheyenne received a bye in the match for 5th place.
Cateri Yellowhawk received a bye in her first round match. She defeated Chamberlain’s Evelyn Olson by tech fall 17-2 at 5:00. In the match for 1st place, Cateri came out the victor by fall at 4:52 over Jessica Waln of Lakota Tech.
Saige Heath won her first round match by fall at 3:31 over Kathryn Iron Shell of Todd County. In the match for 1st place, Saige lost by fall to Eriah Big Crow of Lakota Tech, and took 2nd place honors.
Chargers Head Wrestling Coach Brady Weischedel praised his squad’s efforts. “Such an amazing job by our kids,” said Coach Weischedel. “Every one of them showed so much toughness and determination. Perhaps not every outcome was the one we wanted, but you can’t question the effort and heart all our kids wrestle with. I love to see it! We are heading in the right direction, and we are going to peak at the perfect time! We have three weeks left in the season and the kids have set some pretty high goals, so we are going to get back to work!”
