The Sully Buttes Chargers varsity boys golf team participated in their first meet of the year at the Faulkton Invite. Eleven schools with 74 golfers were in attendance.
For the Chargers, 7th grader Gavin Colson, playing in his first varsity event, navigated the course at 43-42=85, good for a 6th place tie; he lost off the card to finish at 7th.
Marshall Wittler finished 27th at 104. Reese Voorhees and Payton Peery tied for 29th, shooting 108 with Reese winning on the tie breaker.
Forty-five male golfers were in attendance at the invite. Sully Buttes did not have any female golfers participating as they had played in Gettysburg on Tuesday.
The Chargers will travel to Eureka for the Bowdle Invite on Saturday with four male and two female golfers participating.
Coach Pool had these comments on the Thursday meet. "Faulkton is a course where you need to stay in the fairways or the trees will get you; the three high scores were a result of that. Gavin was able to stay out of trouble for the most part, and scored well because of it.”
“We will be having our final playoff next Wednesday to set the team for the final events and Region teams. Some of the golfers do track as well and this will be their chance to play themselves onto the team. I am hoping once we get this team set we can compete for some team places. At Faulkton, we did finish 5th as a team out of 11."
