Seniors Grant Johnson and Jett Lamb #54 console each other after their only loss during a home game in their four-year high school career.They lost a total of five games in the past four years.

The Sully Buttes Chargers hosted the defending Class 9A champion Canistota/Freeman Pride and were defeated 56-22 in the semi-final play-off game.

The Pride’s Tyce Ortman opened the first quarter with a 27-yard run and scored the conversion points. Ortman scored four of the touchdowns for the Pride. Ortman wasted no time carrying the ball 63 yards to score with 8:44 on the clock. The conversion failed. Senior Nick Wittler found an opening and rushed for seven yards to score. Ortman answered back with a 62-yard run and carried in the conversion.

The last touchdown of the first quarter came again from Ortman with an interception and a 57-yard run. The score was 28-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Pride continued their scoring hits and the game was 42-14 at halftime in favor of the Pride. The Chargers second quarter touchdown came when Wittler threw a 29-yard pass to senior tight end Grant Johnson. Sophomore running back Jordan Schall scored on a five-yard run in the second half. The Pride would have two more touchdowns in the second half to give them the win.

Sully Buttes had 189 yards on the ground and 170 receiving yards, for a total of 359 yards offensively.

Canistota/Freeman racked up a total of 387 yards on the ground, and added 142 through the air, for a total of 529 total yards.

The Chargers fumbled the ball twice and threw two interceptions. The Pride turned three of those four turnovers into points.
